The English Language Learning Program (ELL) provides support to all multilingual, undergraduate students in the Faculty of Arts and Science. All activities are designed to help improve the language skills students need in order to succeed in their courses. An intensive, non-credit, 8-day course focusing on reading, writing, listening, and speaking is offered late summer and spring. For further details, go to the ELL web site. During the first 5 weeks of the fall and spring terms, ELL offers a schedule of activities that includes the Communication Cafe and Reading eWriting. Students can gain practice in both oral and written expression as well as critical thinking. Reading eWriting may also be started or continued throughout each term. For more information, go to the ELL web site. SGS and Engineering also offer non-credit courses for graduate and undergraduates students in their respective faculties. See our pages for more details.See the News page for information on other free workshops and courses that are offered from time to time by college or faculty writing centres. For additional intensive instruction, consider setting aside time to take one of the certificate programs offered by the School of Continuing Studies. It offers a large number of non-credit courses on academic writing and oral skills for students learning English. People who successfully complete the 10/12-week course called Academic English are exempt from further English facility testing for admission to undergraduate programs at U of T. |
